Charles Armuth ‘Bus’ LeFevre, 96, of Westphalia, Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Friday, February 10, 2023 in Freelandville. He was born on December 19, 1926 in Knox County to Charles Allen and Mamie (Armuth) Lefevre. Charles married Joyce Ailene Lawyer on May 31, 1953 at the Salem Evangelical and Reform Church in Westphalia.
Charles graduated from Westphalia High School in 1944 and studied at Vincennes University for a time. ‘Bus’ was a US Army Veteran, serving as a Cryptographic Technician in the 9th Infantry Division during World War II decoding top secret messages to and from the President. He was a faithful member of the United Church of Christ in Westphalia, the VFW, American Legion and was a member and leader of the Rural Youth Club. He worked as a skilled plasterer, manager at S&W Telephone, licensed realtor and was a lifelong farmer. ‘Bus’ was one of the original founders for Westphalia Housing.
Family left to cherish the memories of ‘Bus’ include: a daughter, Twila (Eldon) Bement of Vincennes, a son, Scott (Janet) Lefevre of Westphalia; two grandchildren, Craig (Krissy) Bement of Boonville and Niki Bement of Terre Haute and one step-grandson, Evan.
‘Bus’ was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mamie and his wife, Joyce.
Graveside services for both Charles and Joyce will be scheduled and held at Salem Cemetery a later date. Military graveside rites will be provided for ‘Bus’ at that time.
