Edward Simon Obituary

Ed Simon entered this life on September 13, 1927. He was number five of six boys, and number nine of eleven children born to Joseph C. and Nannie Mae (Huskison) Simon. All eleven children lived to be healthy adults, living into their 70’s and 80’s except one sister who died at age 69.

Ed was a member of Switz City Christian Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving bride of nearly 69 years, Patricia Ann (Blanton) Simon on April 13, 2020, and nine siblings.

Ed is survived by his son, Joseph E. Simon (Terry), their children, Erin Cole, Jared E. Simon and Lindsey Gabor, all of Ohio. Also, a daughter, Margaret Ann Simon of Linton and his baby sister, Margie Jean Shields in Hattiesburg, MS. Additionally, three great-grandchildren in Ohio and a large family of cousins, nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States.

He lived his childhood in the north Delta area of Mississippi. His family home was, with one exception, within 15 miles of the Mississippi River. At one point, he lived at the base of the river’s levee at Friar’s Point, MS.

After graduation from Friar’s Point High School, he studied for the ministry at Johnson Bible College, now Johnson University, then served as a pastoral minister for 20 years at several locations. Additional studies were completed at Butler University and later at the University of South Florida in Tampa. While in pastoral ministry, Ed served churches at Wildie, KY, Kempton, IN, Nashville, IN, Traders Point, IN, before moving his family to Wauchula, FL in 1968 to serve as minister of a small church.

In 1970, the family moved to Avon Park, FL, where he and his wife joined the teaching staff of the Highlands Co. School System. Ed worked as a classroom teacher for seven years, then as Guidance Counselor for ten years.

Ed was appreciative to his faithful wife, Patty for such a full life, and for making him such a wealthy man.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Meng Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Chris Gehring and David Woods officiating. Ed will be laid to rest in Peavey Cemetery in Howesville.
