Jerry Summerville Obituary

Jerry Max Summerville, 73, of Lyons, Indiana, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at NCH Baker Hospital in Naples, Florida. Jerry was born February 9, 1950 in Linton, Indiana, the son of Cletho Effert Summerville and Martha Mae (Mowery) Summerville.

He was a lifetime resident of Greene County, Indiana and grew up on the family dairy farm south of Lyons. Jerry graduated from L&M High School with the famous L&M class of 1968.

Jerry was a Vietnam veteran and served his country in the US Army patrolling the communist border in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Lyons American Legion Post #479. Jerry was an avid sportsman and loved being outdoors, enjoying fishing and hunting.  As a hobby, he crafted and fabricated Kentucky long rifles for his family members as gifts. Jerry spent most of his working years as a coal miner and heavy equipment operator.  After retiring, he went to Naples to spend winters, returning to Lyons every spring. He particularly enjoyed his treks each fall riding his motorcycle to Naples from Indiana and returning in the spring.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Summerville of Lyons, son, Michael Summerville of Sandborn, daughters, Jessica (Roger) Snyder of Bicknell, and Ellen (Matt) Warner of Washington, Indiana, and his brother, Gilbert Summerville of Bradenton, Florida.  Also, step-daughter, Beth Haseman of Linton and step-son, Donnie Savill of Naples.  His grandchildren include Hannah (Kelly) Stevens, Clay Summerville, Layne Summerville, Matilyn Warner, Falyn Warner, Coltyn Warner, Korben Vickers, Brackson Snyder, Remington Snyder, Brantlee Snyder, and Ashlyn Snyder. Great-grandchildren include Rylee Mae Stevens, Logan Stevens, Isaac Summerville, and Harper Summerville.

He was preceded to eternity by his parents, and sister, Janet Mae Summerville.

At Jerry’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. He will be laid to rest in Bethel Cemetery in Sandborn at a later date.
