John Glen Roark Obituary

John ‘Glen’ Roark, 92, of Wheatland, IN, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Willow Manor in Vincennes, IN, holding the hand of his beloved wife. He was born on October 18, 1926, in Plainville, IN, to Marvin and Sadie (McLin) Roark.  He married Senora L. Stremming on June 14, 1947, and the couple had just celebrated 72 years of marriage.

Glen was a farmer and worked at numerous coal mines over his lifetime, retiring from Old Ben 2 Mine.  He, also, drove a school bus for North Knox School Corporation.  Glen loved to plant a large garden that provided fresh vegetables for his family to enjoy.  His favorite vegetables were his many varieties of pepper plants.  He would decide if a pepper was hot, (or not), by taking a bite when he took guests on a garden tour. Glen was always working in his woodworking shop, where he made many items for his family and friends. He was the person everyone brought their broken equipment to, so he could work on the motors or make repairs others couldn’t figure out how to do themselves.  He loved to fish on the White River, with nets he knitted himself, and camp at the river camp.  He took may trips to Minnesota, fishing with his friends and family.  Glen loved to travel, a love that he passed on to his children, and had visited every state. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Family members left to cherish Glen’s memory include: his wife, Senora (Stremming) Roark; five  children, David (Patti) Roark of Plainville, Janice L. (Butch) Keasling, Larry (LouAnn) Roark and Beverly (Jim) Adams, all of Wheatland, and Phyllis (Joe) Holscher of Monroe City;  thirteen grandchildren: Brad (Tonya) Roark, Keith (Tina) Roark, Travis (Brittany) Keasling, Brian (Sara) Keasling, Jonathan (Megan) Roark. Andy (Britni) Roark, Daniel (Jessica) Roark, Angie Elkins, Melissa (Cory) Price, Elaina (Chris) Lavely, Scott (Andrea) Holscher, Jeremy (Kaylin) Holscher and Kevin (Amanda) Holscher; 30 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother, Jim (Karen) Roark of Oaktown; and a sister, Dodie Inman of Sandborn.

Glen was preceded in death by: his parents, and siblings: Robert Roark, Susie Purcell, Morris Roark, and Neal Roark.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the Wheatland United Methodist Church, 330 W. Main St., Wheatland, IN, with Pastor Jarrod Chattin officiating. Glen will be laid to rest in the Wheatland Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9th, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday at the Wheatland United Methodist Church.
