Martha Jane (Bledsoe) Marlow

Martha Jane Marlow, 101, of Dugger, Indiana, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at her home. She was born on March 9, 1921 in Dugger to Floyd and Blanche (Carr) Bledsoe. Martha married the love of her life, John William Marlow on August 9, 1940.

Martha was a member of the Dugger Church of Christ. She graduated from Union High School in 1939, Cosmetology School ‘Smart Appearance’ in Terre Haute in 1940 and was a hairdresser for 70 years. The job she loved most of all was being a homemaker and mom. She also served many years as a cook for Woodland Bible Camp in Dugger and Winchester Bible College Camp in Kentucky. Martha was a co-founder of the Dugger Coal Museum in 1980.

Family left to cherish the memory of Martha include: one daughter, Judy (Vernon) Smith of Brazil; one son, Jim (Peggy) Marlow of Dugger; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Commodore) Secrest, Mark (Amanda) Marlow, Lynette (Craig) Curzon, Crystal (Pat) Louden and Kurt (Brenda) Smith; ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.  

Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Marlow; one brother, James Bledsoe; three sisters, M. Marcille Ellingsworth and her husband, Russell, Myra Marguerite Albers and her husband, Kenneth and Mary Gatewood and her husband, Bill.

Funeral services to honor the life of Martha will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel at Linton with Pastor Nick Moore officiating. Martha will be laid to rest in Dugger Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dugger Church of Christ or the Dugger Coal Museum. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
