Mary Jane ‘Janie’ Shaffer, 85, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022 at her home. She was born on November 4, 1936 in Muncie, Indiana to Lee Bernard and Barbara ‘Pearl’ (Campbell) Hasler. Janie married the love of her life, Clarence ‘Jack’ Shaffer, on August 2, 1952.

Janie was a member of the Elnora Eastern Star. She retired with several years of service as a mail clerk.

Family left to cherish the memories of Janie include: two daughters, Jackie (Doug) Hogge and Jerrie Alexander, both of Virginia; three sons, Kendall (Kay) Shaffer of Tennessee, Kent (Kathy) Shaffer and Keith (Brandie) Shaffer, both of Virginia; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a life-long friend, Deegee Hendley.

Janie was preceded in death by: her husband, Jack Shaffer; her parents; one son, Kevin Shaffer; two sisters, Linda Osmon and Barbara Nichols.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery in Elnora.
