Vera Mae (Copple) Foutch, age 97, formerly of Boyd (Dix) IL, went peacefully to Heaven to be with Jesus on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Owen Valley Health Center, Spencer, Indiana. She was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on September 26, 1923 to Callie Delbert Copple and Myrtle Edna (Chapman) Copple. She married Stanton Gale Foutch on April 19, 1947, in Jefferson County, Illinois.
Vera was a very devoted, life-long member of Boyd Christian Church. She glorified God by using her beautiful voice to sing solos and sing in the church choir. She was often the song leader during church services. Vera was a Sunday School teacher, many times part of a women’s volunteer church group at Oil Belt Christian Service Camp and a Bible School teacher during the summer. She worked for many years at Mooney’s Store in Boyd, IL, and as both a cook and waitress for several years at Austin’s Restaurant in Dix, IL. Some say that she “was the best pie maker ever” and her homemade sugar cookies were so good … she won 1st place in the Boyd Christian Church Bakeoff Contest that resulted in a church published cookbook containing all contestants’ recipes. Last, but not least, she was a member of the Gospel Homecoming Choir, led by John and Judy Roberts.
